House Speaker Johnson says he has the votes

On 2nd December- The newest attempt by Republicans to criticize President Joe Biden comes from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who stated on Fox News on Saturday that he thinks they have the necessary votes to open a formal inquiry into Biden’s impeachment.

A vote on the formal impeachment investigation will be held soon, according to Johnson and House GOP conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who also appeared on Fox News. The allegations center on the idea that Biden and his family planned an illegal scheme to use their position as vice president for financial gain.

Additionally, they said that the White House had “stonewalled” the three committees looking into Biden—the Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means—by claiming to have suppressed documents and prevented witnesses from testifying.

Following a Republican conference meeting behind closed doors on Friday, Republicans—including Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.)—said they could move toward bringing a vote to the House floor as early as next week, according to NBC News.

Johnson cited Democrats’ “brazen, partisan political purposes” in the impeachment of former President Donald Trump. He asserted that this impeachment investigation is unique since “we are the rule of law team.”

According to the Associated Press, Biden has consistently refuted the accusations made against him by Republicans, branding their attempt at impeachment as unlawful, and resisting requests for probes. A top White House lawyer accused House Republicans of having “misrepresented the facts, ignored the overwhelming evidence disproving your claims, and repeatedly shifted the rationale for your ‘inquiry'” in a letter addressed to them in November.
