To facilitate seamless learning, the government of Kenya enhanced bursaries under the Constituencies Development Fund on Monday, December 11. This comes after President William Ruto signed The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (Amendment) Bill into law.
The law raises the allotment from 35 to 40 percent, which will help students finish their education and maintain their progress.
Additionally, school food projects will be supported by additional funding, particularly in areas affected by the drought.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah declared, “This will check drop-outs, boost enrollment, and further the Government’s efforts to increase literacy.”
Additionally, the Act raises the CDF’s allotment to environmental operations from 2% to 5% to address the climate catastrophe.
In addition, it establishes a 3% Fund allotment for Constituencies’ digital hubs.
According to the government, the centers play a crucial role in helping young people gain skills that would increase their employability.
In the meantime, National Assembly Bill No. 69 of 2023, the National Lottery Bill, received the President’s assent.
This makes it possible to form the National Lottery Board, which will be in charge of running the recently formed National Lottery.
The Board will be in charge of overseeing, managing, and keeping an eye on the National Lottery’s operations.
Establishing safeguards against fraud in the management of the National Lottery will also be required.
The National Lottery’s purpose is to finance social development in the nation, according to Ichungw’ah, the bill’s proponent.
Among those in attendance were Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Attorney General Justin Muturi, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.
