Sen. Sifuna Reacts After President William Ruto Fails to Award Him with National Honours
Nairobi Sen. Edwin Sifuna expressed his displeasure after his name was left off the list of awardees of national honors.
Tuesday, December 12, 2023– Nairobi Sen. Edwin Sifuna expressed his displeasure after his name was left off the list of awardees of national honors. He said that President William Ruto had refused to present him with a state award during the Jamhuri Day celebration.
Sifuna claimed in a statement that their different political philosophies were the reason his name was left off.
He did, however, point out that despite not being acknowledged, he was contested. Sifuna commended those who received recognition and state commendations.
“I respect Ruto’s decision denying me the national honors I had been nominated for. I always suspected the disdain was mutual. I thank Parliament for the nomination though. And to all those who made it to the list, ” Sifuna wrote in an X Post.
Athletes, professors, artists, governors, cabinet secretaries, members of Parliament, senators, and principal secretaries are among the people honored in various categories.
Athlete Faith Kipyegon was one of the people Ruto honored.
“In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, I confer awards and honors to the following persons,” Ruto said.
Governors Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi and Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos were also honored by the state.
Ruto also gave honors to several Cabinet Secretaries together with the national assembly majority leader and MP for Kikuyu Kimani Ichung’wa and minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, MP Ugunja on Jamhuri Day.
