DCI recovers car used in Meru blogger ‘Sniper’ murder
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered the vehicle used in the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani’s alias Sniper.

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the investigators provided an update, stating that Kithoku, Meru County was the location of the vehicle’s recovery. The car was a silver Toyota Premio with registration number KCR 742N.
Investigators discovered that on December 2, 2023, the late blogger was killed in Mutonga River in Chiakariga, Tharaka Nithi County, using the same vehicle that had been used to kidnap him.
“The identification and subsequent recovery of the vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio registration number KCR 742N followed thorough forensic analysis of crucial leads, which pointed to a residential place at Canopy area of Kithoka, Meru county,” said the DCI.
DCI claims that on the day of Sniper’s kidnapping and atrocious murder, Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, also known as Supuu, hired and operated the vehicle.
According to the authorities, the car was also occupied by Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi, and Boniface Kithinji Njihia, also known as DJ Kaboom. Boniface and Brian are being held by the police.
In the meantime, the court gave three suspects connected to Sniper’s murder 21 days to remain in custody while an investigation was conducted.
On Monday, January 8, 2024, Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate William Lokopoiyot issued an order detaining the three individuals—Boniface Githinji, also known as Kaboom, Brian Mwenda, also known as Brayo Grace Kathambi Kithunji—at the Kilimani police station until the investigations were finished.
“I believe the police have established sufficient evidence to justify detaining the individuals while they conduct further investigation. Magistrate Lokopoiyot issued an order for the three suspects to be detained in police cells for 21 days.

The deceased guy died by strangling, according to a post-mortem analysis done on his body at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Tharaka Nithi, Meru County.
According to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who performed the examination, Sniper had evidence of oxygen deprivation and had marks on his neck.
In addition, he displayed bruises and had cracked ribs.
