Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been defended by ODM leader Raila Odinga, who has accused the Kenya Kwanza
On Friday1 December-Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was defended by ODM leader Raila Odinga, who accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of conducting a witch-hunt.
In an apparent attempt to quiet them, Raila asserted that President William Ruto’s administration has turned to pursuing opposition leaders.
“They are going after our people; they want to tarnish Oparanya by bringing false accusations of corruption.” Oparanya is clean, and they are targeting him because of his unwavering stance in our party,” he stated.
Raila presided over the county’s ODM registration drive kickoff as he was giving a speech in Kakamega.
Oparanya and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission are locked in a legal battle around a Sh89 million home that the anti-graft organization alleges Oparanya purchased through dishonest means.
The EACC has already received orders to freeze the former governor’s Sh28.9 million worth of assets.
Judge Esther Maina’s instructions forbade Oparanya, his affiliated private firms, their representatives, attendants, or any other individuals from removing, transferring, or utilizing the frozen funds in any manner for the following six months.
The EACC is attempting to seize the possessions of the former governor, according to court documents. The panel believes that Olorua Ridge Development in Karen, a desirable site, was obtained dishonestly.
In the commission’s affidavit, attorney Joram Wambugu attested to the fact that Oparanya bought the residence through Tricomp Energy Limited, according to the EACC. The business is identified in the litigation as the second respondent.

“Early examinations have shown that procurement irregularities and conflicts of interest existed in the County government of Kakemega’s award of tenders, valued at roughly Sh1.38 billion,” the attorney stated in the documents.
The opposition leader, however, declared yesterday that they would take the administration head-on and that they would not be intimidated by special prosecution.
The ODM leader also criticized Ruto’s administration for not meeting Kenyans’ needs, stating that even if given a century in office, the Kenya Kwanza administration would not follow through on its election-year pledges.
“Ruto has turned into a tax collector, collecting taxes everywhere. Kenya Kwanza came to power without a well-thought-out plan. “He cannot deliver, even if granted a hundred years,” stated Raila.
“We will block them because they are prepared to buy KPC and now want to sell them.”
Along with Oparanya, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, his deputy Ayub Savula, and other opposition MPs, the former prime minister was accompanied.
Sifuna accused Ruto’s administration of intentionally underfunding political parties during his speech during the leaders’ meeting.
The senator from Nairobi claimed that since Kenya Kwanza came to power, Sh1.5 billion had been taken out of political parties’ coffers just this year.
Sifuna declared, “Ruto is out to kill political parties; in the supplementary budget this year alone, he has removed Sh900 million.”
