US Warship Was Attacked in the Middle East

On 3rd December-According to the Pentagon, Iran-backed Yemeni rebels increased their attacks on Western and Israeli-affiliated ships in Middle Eastern waters, and on Sunday they attacked an American destroyer and two commercial vessels in the Red Sea. This could represent a significant uptick in aggression in these waters.

Sunday saw the Pentagon confirm the incident, shortly after British officials reported that they had heard about drone attacks in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea. Neither country released any information regarding the attack, including the identity of the perpetrator.

The Associated Press was informed by an unidentified U.S. official that the attacks in Sanaa, Yemen, continued for around five hours.

The USS Carney reportedly stopped at least one drone assault, according to a second unnamed government source, which was published by the AP.

The strikes coincide with Israel being targeted by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are backed by Iran in their conflict with Hamas.

The Times of Israel added that the group claimed in a statement on Sunday that it had attacked two “Israeli” ships, the first with a missile and the second with a drone. It is not yet known, however, if the U.S. Navy ship was one of the two that the group claimed to have attacked.

According to Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a spokesman for the Houthi military, the group attacked the ships after they disregarded their earlier warnings. He added that the first ship attacked was the British-owned Unity Explorer bulk carrier, flying the flag of the Bahamas, and the second ship was the Number 9, a container ship flying the flag of Panama.
