President Ruto Announces Increase in Capitation to Schools by Ksh12B Days After Releasing Ksh 31B
On Monday, January 8, 2024, a few days after Ksh31 billion in bursaries was disbursed to schools, President William Ruto stated that the government has doubled capitation for bursaries.
The president declared, while speaking in Uasin Gishu County, that Ksh12 billion will be made available by the government for education across the nation.
Ruto claims that the additional funding will strengthen the educational system and ensure that children transfer to junior secondary schools.
“We want to make sure that our education system is appropriately grounded on a strong foundation upon which to build the process of Kenya,” he stated.

President Ruto made his remark in response to requests made by Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition, for him to release the cash before the reopening of schools.
Other opposition figures put pressure on Ruto to give the education sector priority before starting new development initiatives.
“Our students are facing financial challenges, and bursaries play a crucial role in ensuring that they have access to quality education. We urge President William Ruto to intervene and expedite the release of NG-CDF funds so that we can allocate bursaries without further delay,” requested Trans Nzoia MP Kakai Bissau.
Raila had charged that Ruto had not raised school capitation in comparison to his predecessors. He urged parliamentarians to advocate for the money’s distribution and the enhancement of the educational system.
Ruto, meanwhile, pledged to renovate Kamagut, his former primary school in Uasin Gishu, during the event. The project’s anticipated cost, including donations from additional sponsors, is Ksh190 million.

Ruto disclosed that the renovation will include cutting-edge classrooms and additional amenities for the benefit of the pupils.
The administration also intends to promote and hire more teachers to enhance the school system.
Ruto also pledged in 2022 to deliver on the economic change he had promised Kenyans throughout the campaign. To help regular unemployed Kenyans living in subpar housing and without access to quality healthcare, he pleaded with MPs to support his manifesto.
“I want to ask you, let us give the ordinary Kenyan a chance. I will do whatever it takes to make sure those without jobs are employed and those without health insurance get it,” he stated.
