CCTV Shows Shoplifters Drilling Into the Store to Steal Ksh 400,000 in Goods
After three months in business, a Nairobi businessman is counting the Ksh400,000 worth of items that were lost after the establishment’s customers bored a hole and broke in.
An employee of the cyber café company in Nairobi’s Utawala Area told the media that although the crime happened in January, the offenders had not yet been apprehended.
The shop’s owner showed off CCTV footage from that tragic day, revealing that the two suspects had been regular customers for three months.
Eucabeth Gabby, the employee, saw that the suspects first leaped over a wall and then proceeded to drill through it to gain entry to the shop.
“The incident set us back because the PS could not be reinstalled and the photo studio was affected,” she posed. We barely have any more cyber café accessories, and we are obliged to close since we do not have the money to continue operating.”
Although no arrests have been made, the owner reported the event to the Mihang’o Police Station and gave officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) access to the CCTV footage.

Gabby disclosed that during the incident, which happened at approximately 11:30 p.m., a PlayStation screen and other computers utilized at the cyber cafe were taken.
Furthermore, she asserted that the two were their clients and that, based on the fact that they only ever made cash payments rather than using mobile money, she suspected the two were planning to steal.
She alleged that “It seems they have been investigating this because they had a lot of information when they visited.”
According to the National Crime Research Center’s most recent crime report, which was published in November 2022, burglaries and housebreakings accounted for 58% of all crimes committed in Nairobi.
