Veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor alias Mr Ibu is dead

NIGERIA, On March 2, 2024, a Saturday, the renowned actor, Mr. Ibu passed away in a Nigerian hospital.

Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas announced that Mr. Ibu had passed away, saying that the renowned actor had suffered a heart arrest on Saturday, March 2.

According to President Rollas post on his Instagram page. He stated “I announce with a deep sense of grief that Ibu didn’t make it. Mr Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years,”

The many admirers of Mr. Ibu who have followed his remarkable career spanning decades are appalled by his departure.

The performer has won over audiences both domestically and internationally with his remarkable comic skills and captivating performances.

Mr Ibu has been admitted to the hospital since September 2023.

Concerns concerning Mr. Ibu’s health had been raised in December 2023 when his family released a statement about him.

The actor’s health issues now seem to have taken the brunt, despite promises that everything was well after an amputation procedure.

The family statement clarified Mr. Ibu’s medical issues and stated that serious blood clotting in his leg, along with other underlying illnesses, required amputation.

The statement said, in part, that because the first amputation did not fully resolve his medical condition, the doctors felt compelled to amputate the same limb again to further protect his life.

The actor’s health kept becoming worse even after receiving numerous surgeries and other medical treatments.

Mr. Ibu’s condition did not much improve after the first amputation, necessitating more surgical procedures.

The actor passed away from his illnesses despite efforts to manage them, including expert care from medical professionals. His corpus of work will live on as a tribute to him.

Mr. Ibu has made a lasting impact on the Nigerian cinema industry, especially in the comedy genre.

Following the actor’s death, friends, family, and colleagues in the business have showered him with accolades, remembering him for his extraordinary talent, sense of humour, and larger-than-life persona.
